Bio
I grew up in Los Angeles, California and my fly fishing addiction began at the age of 14. Through my teens and early 20's, I fly fished places like Piru Creek, San Gabriel River, Bear Creek, and the LA River; but also made frequent fishing excursions to the Sierra's, Northern California, Idaho, and Montana. I went away to college..... then, completed my undergraduate studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1989 with a degree in Physical Anthropology.

it is indeed an authentic snuggie from the infomercials displayed in all its ridiculousness
MMM, nothing like a nice luke warm pee water on hot summer day rowing down the river! Hope you can make the event, Brian and I need someone to row our boat and help us down all that PBR, haha. You heading to any shows this season?
PBR SUCKS! PEE WATER! I have 2 trips during that time but I'm trying to change them. Sounds like a blast.
Hey Dave, don't hate on the PBR. You know you love it. We have a warming trend hitting the Valley all next week. Wanna come out and play? Also, you heading to the Holston with Robert and the Orvis Crew? I'm bringing the boat....suds and big browns. Can't wait
Hola
when did you send it? I need to get back to that place
Hi Trevally - did you get the email I sent in regard to your Question about the best time to come down under?
I tried a sip the other day and had dry heaves for about 2 hours afterward.
Who doesn't love the Poor Boaters Refreshment?
We know you love PBR... I guess we will have to buy you a six pack and send it to you !!! Its ok to be a closet PBR lover, we won't tell !!!
The waders are good so far. Very comfortable and I really like the neoprene booties...they are much softer than any others I have worn. I do not like the gravel guard, they ride up too much and would be death if they got a hook stuck in them. Other than that they have held up so far. Only about 25 hours in them so far though.
I'm not sure on the Orvis Channel thing. Orvis and Hook told me they were going to feature me on that channel back in the summer. You have those waders too? They have been working well for me. How about you? Also, there is a bug/suggestion section on the forum.
Alright cool, so now how do I become part of the Orvis Channel on Hook? I am currently field testing some new waders for them and would like to post some videos about the features. Who should I contact or what do I need to do to become a part of that channel? sorry for all the questions...but there's no page with faq's or tutorials or anything. Thanks
It usually takes a couple days. Josh has to approve them and he may be out of town or something.
Also, how long does it take for your videos to post? I've uploaded 4 and can view them on myhook....but they haven't posted yet...been like 3 days.
Wow, something would need to be done about that. I uploaded once...an error page came up, downloaded again and then both showed up.
I actually dont think you can. I will ask Josh and let you know.
Dave, any idea on how to delete a video or photo? I have a few that uploaded after saying there was an error and I need to delete the duplicates. Thanks
That is what I have done on the bigger carp we catch. I've seen guys around here hoisting 40 inch musky by their lip...poor things! Let me know when you get that real big one. That fish has got to break some kind of record.
In the net. I clip the boga on the net now and weigh the fish inside. I haven't seen the real big one lately because WE FINALLY HAVE WATER. WOOHOO.
Maxed out the 15lb boga huh! That's what I'm talking about. I have a 30 but don't use it as I feel it would break the jaw, damage the lip, or dislocate the spine of most fish much over 15lbs. The pink eggi strikes again. That fish should draw some major attention. Any more sightings of that fish pushing 40 inches?
We are only fishing 3 days, staying 4 nights. We do this trip every January from the 29th until February 2nd. We fly through Charlotte round trip for $315! It cost my guys like $850 bucks last year...that was sharing a boat and included meals, lodging, and the boat for the entire trip. We have 4 going but the more the merrier. If you can't swing this one, we can always plan another trip. Robert Bryant really wants to go and has a few guys in mind that may want to go as well.
How much is it?
you better take some pictures of pretty ladies fishing...
I hope Santa loads you down with more micro brews than you could ever possibly drink. Thank goodness for wet weather! We are back out in full force. Heading to the bahamas end of January...you free?
Saw a little of the game. I liked the play at the goal line when the quarterback was tossed around like a rag doll. We did get the rain. I had to cancel a few guide trips as a result but would rather have the rain. Merry Christmas.
I hear that! Can u believe that JMU game?! Never seen our team turn over the ball so much! Only 4 all season...and 4 in that game. We beat ourselves for them. So depressed. Time to take out some aggression on some PIGS. Did you guys get the rain we did? Wow! We have a ton!
I like being the shop and river rat. No one can do add on sales like I do :)
Dave, sounds like you need to hire a few shop rats! Fortunately I have a few reliable fly fishing nerds to help me get on the water! Hope your season turns out well.
Your welcome anytime.. Hope Christmas sales are good.. I know other shops in the area are feeling the pinch.. We'll drink a beer for you and stick a pig.. Well the first part for sure, we'll work hard for the second. Later
I would love to but I have the shop open 7 days a week through Christmas. Thank you for the invite but I need to be here.
Yo Dave, You up for a float on Sunday? I may have an open seat. i will know tonight if the guy backs out. Let me know. We are shooting for the Watauga, unless they decide to generate on the Tuck.... Ryan
Big Game Friday! Go Dukes. Sorry about that loss to RIC. I can't stand the Spiders. We could use your yoda like powers to aid in our win!
Nice fellas. You guys rock (and so does James Madison : )
Dave, we finally made it on here. Just have some photos up now of some interesting local friends. We will be adding to the videos section soon! Check us out and add us DUDE! May the force be with you.
Hi Dave! Thanks for your input on rod selection. I would love to be included in your circle of friends!
yeah, it looks looks like Bacon's boat but it was actually Heritage that day. Caught that fish on the swing above power lines on the Mo. during a warm snap in Feb. 2003 (i think).
hey dave there is a river in polaski ny the salmon river the salmon will be are starting to run and steelheads are right behind them /i was also thinking of doing some salt water with it
When I first saw Dave's Eggi Juan, I asked "What more do you need!?" Ah yes... Streamers and a few nymphs. Dave has fish magic
Hello. Well, I'm not the creator of the egg and San Juan worm but I did put the 2 together and came up with an appropriate name. I would love to talk about one of the most productive trout flies that I've have had the pleasure to fish with. It is one heck of a pattern during certain times of the year; especially in pink.
Dave, correct me if I am wrong, but i see you are the inventor of the Eggi Juan Kenobi. That rocks if you are. BRM is heading to New York for a week in October to chase fall run Browns from lake Ontario. It would be cool to get a small video interview about eggi with you. We are going to be filming a short film on the trip and would love to incorporate the interview and use of the fly into the video. I am going to get by your shop sometime this week to pick up some eggi's if you have any...
I usually just get snagged and pretend I have a fish on :)...Like Ryan said I post links all over the web. Also my old youtube page has Half a million hits and it's linked to bentrodmedia which is linked to hook...it's a wonderful cycle....The Bent Rod Boys sure would look good with a few Helios rod to show off :) You should come up to N.Y. with us in October.
My rod always turns heads : ) I have Helios
Dave, You are approved.. you are now part of the bent rod Network. "Carry a big rod and turn some heads"! Ryan
Dave, we have the videos embedded in our website. Plus, One of our other members is a web guru, and he posts links all over the many forums and blogspots he frequents. I am trying to figure out how to approve you... Ryan
Trevally for President. Murphy BRM
Dave, I love micro-brews.. i drink Bud-light, because my old neighbor was the beerman, and I like a light beer from time to time... But, I prefer a specialty beer. I will try to get bey your shop for some beer tasting.. Ryan
It was good to meet you, as well. I hope to fish with you sometime. It would be fun to catch a PIG or two together. Dave
Dave, it was good talking to you at the shop on Friday.. The meat caught some nice browns and bows... We landed a few WILD 20 inchers... The big boys were seen, but seemed to elude us on this trip.. Part because of the rain that dumped on us... Bent Rod Media is steadily coming together. We are evolving as amateur film makers. We have a few film projects in the works for next year. As we upgrade equipment, we will be taking on more projects.. We would love to fish and film with you sometime... keep posted on our progress... Ryan aka Raul
The fishing in NC has been good but in Virginia it has been phenomenal. We've been site fishing to large trout and hooking (the operative word is "hooking") them on small blood worm patterns; a real blast. I hope to see you soon (before or after the summer heats up). DH
Dave, How is the fishing in NC? We missed you at the Rendezvous, but look forward to fishing with you this summer back there. Best, JD
The improved Hook is excellent. Easy to use and navigate. Once again, thanks for giving us the platform to showcase what we love to do- fly fish.
Dave, Welcome to the new Hook.tv. Loved your bio. That is what this site is all about. Getting a bunch of guys like you on here who live and love the sport as well as those who do it on occasion. What do you think of the new and improved Hook? JD
